One of the Education Department?s main aims is to establish strong links between the Basque National Orchestra and our schools, in all fields and at all levels. This relationship began when an initiative was set up called "Tempo di Martxa!" in 2007, for the Basque National Orchestra's 25th anniversary, where a travelling music room visited a large number of schools and received visits from more than 20,000 Primary children.
The Education Department is currently working on four lines of action which aim to take this relationship further:
Linked to the Family Concerts, these workshops take place in schools organising a group to attend any of our Family Concerts. The Workshop centres on the repertoire and the topic of the concert that they are going to attend; it will last one hour and it will be free.
Visits to Orchestra headquarters are for secondary students in all fields aiming to focus on two aspects: on the one hand, show how our Orchestra works internally and, on the other, offer students the chance to attend a full or partial rehearsal for one of the Basque National Orchestra season concerts.

The Basque National Orchestra Education Department aims to actively implicate different schools in its project, in an effort to connect classical music with people, their environment and their everyday lives. This active involvement emerges in different ways, such as Primary Education and Music School students participating in the children?s repertoire, or higher musical teaching institutions putting on a musical show or school children attending concerts.
The Basque National Orchestra is starting this 2009/2010 season with a new activity, Schools Concerts, which will bring children and young students to concert halls during school hours to listen to their Orchestra, following specifically designed programmes which aim to introduce live classical music, particularly symphonic music to a younger audience.
